Other Information: In the past I have tried groundcover plants now I am using ground cover fabric. There are some pros and cons, but I am applying it between beds so I don’t have to cut or weed as much. But it protects the soil from the sun. Other Information: I harvested Strawberries from my garden this morning June 12, 2021. Every fall I collect leaves for my compost pile and dump a portion of them on the strawberries. Additionally, I learned something new this week, that I had some plants in another bed that I thought were strawberry plants but they grew different. Other Information: Preparing high carbon materials for composting. Old news paper and cardboard boxes can be shredded and added to compost to increase the Carbon content and reduce the smell. You want a ratio of 30 to 1 carbon nitrogen in active compost and will be about 10 to 1 carbon to nitrogen when finished. 2/3 of carbon is released as Co2 or methane depending on how you compost. Protecting your compost from rain can greatly reduce methane production and should be considered. Compost is carbon rich and can be used for many things including long term storage of carbon.

I then removed weeds from around a flowering bush as well as vines from the side of my garage also picked up some rotting wood and put it in the compost as well to ensure aerobic decomposition. Carbon is everywhere and the plants are direct air capture of carbon but 2/3 will be re-released in composting sadly. But the other 1/3 will be stable and buried to be permanently sequestered and undergo mineralization.

Other Information: So we have gotten more and more into the GPS scavenger hunt game that is geocaching but more often than not we are in green-space areas and digging through trash trying to find the actual container that the geo-location app is leading us too. So it was doing this activity is one of the reasons we started to carry trash bags with us when we are out geocaching and also on other adventures. This particular day we were placing our very first geocache that we were the original creators of and decided to give the area a good cleaning so that it could be in a more natural and beautiful state. Us two (Daggie) and another friend named sunshine spent the afternoon cleaning up this space that is adjacent to a gas station and the Virginia Dominion speedway so unfortunately a lot of trash and debris makes its way over to the woods patch. It took us a few hours of effort and we filled 3 large trash bags with everything we could pick up but overall it was mostly plastic bags and bottles. It definitely looked and felt much better in that area after the effort invested. In the upper left corner of our pic with the three trash bags and the evergreen logo, is our first geocach container that we left at the base of that tree in the pic, and we were proud to say it was the only bit of matter out of place in that forest. It has become super exciting and cool to be able to see so many of our interest overlap such as cleaning up nature, GPS powered scavenger hunts, and the world of cryptocurrency into these experiences we have come to find. Title: Saving water on food and medicine garden

Other Information: We planted this garden in my mom’s backyard in suburban Virginia where it is brutally hot and dry more than not. The garden is planted full of food stuff for us, my mom and to share with all her neighborhood friends. The medicine part is herbs for making salves, balms, tinctures, etc for a number of different ailments. We have a whole assortment of extremely hot peppers growing and use the pepper to extract capsaicin that is used as a natural pain reliever when rubbed on the skin. The evergreen environmental part of this project is that by installing these water lines and irrigation sprinklers we are able to water a garden of this size with minimal amount of water and minimal wasted water due to less evaporation and/or run off. By watering only and directly at the base of the plants there is not water being sprayed in places it is not needed and there is minimal runoff because there is no excess of water being delivered at one time. This helps cut down on the amount of water needed and it helps cut down on over all weeds because only the plant bases are being watered and not the weeds in between plants. This system also frees up more time to work on things like weeding and tying up plants due to the fact the we spend less of our time watering. We can run this for like 10 to 20 minutes every other day and then if it rains we just don’t run it for a day. It is something that could be setup and run off of a timer but at this point in life and this stage in the garden project we like to be hands on with the watering schedule. Title: Newton Falls Community-wide Cleanup
Location: Newton Falls, Ohio
Other Information: Volunteers proudly representing EverGreenCoin participated in a community-wide cleanup, organized on Facebook, in the Foundation’s hometown of Newton Falls. There were many teams designated different sections of the downtown in preparation for festivities in the town, including the approaching 4th of July weekend. We breezed through our stretch with little challenge, handful or 2 of cigarette butts, a few cans, straws, cups, and only one mask. We wanted to make a bigger impact and we knew of ‘honeypots’ on the banks below the covered bridge that is cleaned monthly solo in other PoE’s. The banks are very steep, but with more than one person (3), we felt safe to navigate down to the banks. An even greater adversary was a pile of driftwood that collected between the bridge’s supports that catches rubbish as it came down the river. Risking life ON limb, haha! Fortunately, no one took a swim. 😉
